Mrs. Wnek was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late Maria Vzikowska Kraseszki and the late Anthony Kraseszki. A tragedy occurred during childbirth that could have altered her life’s path. As it was, Mrs. Wnek was blessed to be raised by her beloved foster parents, the late August and the late Julia and their three children, the late Mildred, the late Fredrick “Freddie”, who died in the Battle of the Bulge and the late Ruth. Ruth and Toni were as close as sisters could be throughout their entire lives. Mrs. Wnek was proud to be their “daughter” and their “sister” and grow up in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she resided until her death.
She worked as a machine operator for Singer Manufacturing Company in Elizabeth from 1943 to 1962. While working at Singer’s, Mrs. Wnek met the love of her life, the man that she would later marry, Frank Wnek. Upon leaving Singer’s, Mrs. Wnek spent a number of years at her hardest job, that of being a wife, a mom and a homemaker. In 1978, she returned to the work force and was employed by the Elizabeth Board of Education, as a high school cafeteria worker until 1982. Mrs. Wnek then transitioned to doing the janitorial services for the Theodore Roosevelt Elementary and Junior High School in Elizabeth until 1992, when she officially retired.
Mrs. Wnek was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption R.C. Church Senior Citizens Club. She also spent many years volunteering at both the church and the St. Mary School cafeteria. In her free time, Mrs. Wnek indulged in some of her hobbies and interests. She adored the old movies, especially the classics which featured the likes of the fictional cowboy hero, Hopalong Cassidy and any film with the actors John Wayne, Clark Gable or Errol Flynn. On the other spectrum, Mrs. Wnek was enthralled with reading the early comic books of Superman and Wonder Woman. She thoroughly enjoyed the superhero movies and television shows. Another aspect of Mrs. Wnek’s personality blossomed whenever there was a dog in her presence; she simply adored them and a smile would instantly come to her lips.
Mrs. Wnek was predeceased by her husband, Francis “Frank” J. Wnek on July 24, 1994. She is survived by the other love of her life, her treasured daughter, Linda Wnek. Mrs. Wnek will also be tremendously missed by her nieces, nephews and friends.
