When Anne T. McGovern Coppa, 62, entered the Kingdom of the Lord unexpectedly on Monday, July 14, 2025, she left behind so many broken hearts and tear-stained faces of all those who loved her.
We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Sunday, July 20th. from 2:00-6:00PM. On Monday, July 21st. from 10:45-11:00AM, family and friends will gather directly at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, 420 Inman Avenue, Colonia, where a funeral mass will be offered for Anne at 11:00AM. The cremation in Rosehill Crematory in Linden will be private.
Anne, the daughter of the late Mary O’Connor McGovern and the late John J. McGovern, was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and was a life-long resident of Colonia. After graduating from Colonia High School in 1980, Anne embarked on her career, first as an Administrative Assistant for The Carborundom Company in Keasbey, followed by Food Service Manager for the Woodbridge Board of Education, and most recently, she spent the last ten years as a Patient Service Associate for the RWJ Barnabas Health Infusion & Specialty Pharmacy in South Plainfield.
Anne’s free time was filled with a multitude of activities. A true “Summer Jersey Girl”, enjoying the beaches of Long Beach Island and hanging by the pool on a weekend afternoon. Anne had a passion for cooking—her kitchen was always filled with the rich aromas of home-cooked meals and the laughter of family and friends around the table. An Irish girl at heart who made a mean Sunday gravy. St. Patrick’s Day was her favorite holiday, and she celebrated proudly each year marching in the Woodbridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade as a member of the American Irish Association. Anne was deeply rooted in her community. Alongside her husband, George, she was an active Auxiliary member of the Colonia VFW Post 6061, fundraising for many different causes, including Colonia’s Annual Breast Cancer Walk—a cause she held dear to her heart in honor of her sister, Patty and her mother, Mary. Anne loved music. If there was a dance floor, you could find her on it. She loved attending concerts, especially the local Mayor’s Concert Series throughout the summer. Most of all, Anne loved spending time with her children, whom she was so proud of.
On the McGovern side of her family, in addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Turner and brother-in-law, Jim Turner. On the Coppa side of her family, Anne was predeceased by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doris J. Marcocci Coppa and Carmine G. Coppa; her brother-in-law, Stephen Symczak, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Phyllis Coppa Dooley and George V. Dooley.
Anne is survived by her husband of thirty-five years, George R. Coppa; her daughter, Megan M. Tierney and her spouse, Ashley Tierney; her son, Nicholas G. Coppa; her brothers, John McGovern, Jr. and his wife, Pam and Thomas McGovern and his wife, Teresa; her cousin, Michael McGovern and his wife, Diane; her sister-in-law, Lisa Symczak; her lifelong friend, Joyce Wiget and Anne’s many nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbors and friends.
We know that the Lord granted Anne a life full of blessings and love, sprinkled with the pain of personal losses. Her legacy shows us the importance of family, faith and perseverance with grace and dignity. As we mourn the loss of Anne, may we rejoice that she is now reunited with all those who went before her and were there to welcome her to her heavenly home with open arms. We will miss her tremendously, but Anne will never be forgotten. May you soar with the angels, Anne!
