Mary Hudak Kostiushko
Mrs. Mary Hudak Kostiushko, 97, died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 in the CareOne at the Highlands in Edison, NJ.
Visitation will take place in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle St., Linden, on Tuesday, January 2nd. from 9:00 – 10:00AM, followed by a prayer service in the funeral home prior to the funeral mass to be offered in St. Theresa R.C. Church, Linden at 11:00AM. Burial will take place in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Kostiushko’s memory to a charity of your choice.
Mrs. Kostiushko was born in Slovakia and came to the United States and Linden, New Jersey in 1927, where she resided until moving to Edison in 2013.
She was employed by Edmar’s Fashion Store in Linden as a sales manager for 19 years until her retirement in 1980.
During World War II, Mrs. Kostiushko worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” for Eastern Aircraft. She was
well known in Linden for her political activism fighting against medical waste, trash and other things detrimental to Linden. Mrs. Kostiushko was president of the Linden Historical Society, as well as a member of the Miller Cory House Museum in Westfield, NJ.
Predeceased by her husband, John Kostiushko on May 25, 1990, Mrs. Kostiushko is survived by her daughter, Jean Peters; her brother, John Hudak Jr; her 2 nieces and 2 nephews and many other family and friends.
