Luz Vargas Obituary

Ms. Luz N. Vargas, 79, entered the Lord’s kingdom on Saturday, March 16, 2024 surrounded by the love of her family.

We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Wednesday, March 27th. from 5:00-8:00PM.  On Thursday, March 28th. at 9:30AM, everyone will start to gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will begin at 10:00AM.

The prayers of the committal will precede Luz’s burial in the family plot in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden, New Jersey.

Luz, the daughter of the late Matilde Nieves Vargas and the late Juan De Mata Vargas was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.  She came to the mainland United States in 1959 and Luz lived in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York for thirteen years before settling in Roselle, New Jersey four years ago.

Luz loved to play the lottery and do her scratch offs.  She was convinced that one day she would be a big winner and of course she lived by the motto that “You have to be in it to win it”!  Music was her strong point as she loved to sing, even making up songs.  A true songwriter, her music brought peace and joy to her inner self.  Luz was deeply devoted to the Lord.  She dedicated her life to Him and instilled that unparalleled faith in her children.  Over the years, Luz enjoyed the Amish people of Pennsylvania’s re-enactments of the Bible, and she strived to be involved in these events.  After her family and the Lord, Luz’s physician, Dr. Agresti was an important part of her life.  She trusted him implicitly and she followed his advice on ways to keep healthy.  Later, as health issues started creeping in, Luz with the help of her doctor, showed what a strong, persevering woman she was – a real fighter!  Her family affectionately called her their ‘Shero”!  Luz truly understood what the important things in life really are.  She made the conscious effort to be with everyone – to make sure they would get together to do something or even nothing at all – simply to be a family.  She made a point to always tell those in her life that she loved them unconditionally.  Luz’s greatest joy that brought a light to her eyes and a smile to her lips was the simplest act of spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.  There was nothing more important or valuable in Luz’s life.  Family Always Came First!

Predeceased by her son, Julio C. Gonzalez, Jr., Luz is survived by her three daughters, Carol Coto and her husband, Steve Martinez, Keila J. Gonzalez, Damaris Sanders and her husband, Nathanial, with whom Luz resided for many years.  She also leaves behind her brother, Jesus Vargas; her sister, Patria Diaz; her eight grandchildren; her four great grandchildren and her many friends and neighbors.

This loss has left behind broken hearts, tear-filled eyes, and great void in the family.  We will keep Luz in our hearts, our minds, and especially in our prayers as we wish her eternal rest with her Lord & Savior and His heavenly angels.  Luz will be greatly missed, but she will never be forgotten.

May she rest in peace.
