Maria S. (De Lacerda) Andrade, 99, of Roselle, New Jersey, was a devoted Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother.  Maria passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2017. 

Maria, the daughter of the Maria and Jose De Lacerda was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal on January 29, 1918.  Maria was the eldest of girl in a family of 10 brothers and sisters. 

She was a teacher in Portugal and later worked for St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey, for many years.  Maria sewed beautiful quilts, farmed her own food, and loved her family.  She was extremely dedicated to her faith and helping others.  Before her passing, Maria was still telling stories about coming to America, life before modern amenities, like running water, and most of all, about her beloved family history. 

Predeceased by her loving husband Sergio S. Andrade, Sr. in 1995, Maria is survived by her son, Sergio S. Andrade, Jr.; her daughter Maria Motora; her son-in-law Martin Motora; her two granddaughters Sarah Kawaguchi and LoriAnne Perrine and their husbands Jeff and Jason,; her three great-grandchildren Teyla, Gavin, and Nathaniel and her three siblings, Laura Escobar, Eduardo de Lacerda and Filomena Dutra.

Visitation will take place in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle St., Linden, on Sunday, November 5^th. from 1:00 – 3:00PM.  On Monday, November 6^th. at 9:30AM, family and friends are asked to gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will be held at 10:00AM, followed by the funeral mass to be offered in St. Joseph the Carpenter R.C. Church, Roselle at 11:00AM.  Burial will take place in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
