Mr. Bernard R. Zofcin, 92, died Friday, July 7, 2017, in his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Visitation will take place in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle St., Linden, on Tuesday, July 11th. from 4:00 – 8:00PM. On Wednesday, July 12th. at 8:30AM, family and friends are asked to gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will be held at 9:00AM, followed by the funeral mass to be offered in the Divine Mercy Parish of Rahway at 10:00AM. Burial will take place in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
Mr. Zofcin was born in Larksville, Pennsylvania where he spent the earlier years of his life. He later moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he resided for four years, until settling in Rahway, New Jersey sixty-one years ago.
Mr. Zofcin was an electric plater for Thomas & Betts Company in Elizabeth, New Jersey for fifteen years before he retired in 1987. Prior to that, he was employed by General Motors in Linden, New Jersey for fourteen years, working on the assembly line.
Mr. Zofcin was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Army and he served with the 357th. antiaircraft artillery searchlight battalion.
He was a member of the Flintlocks, a division associated with the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Zofcin was also a member of the Rahway Knights of Columbus Council #1146, the Rahway Elks Lodge #1075, the Clark American Legion Post #328 and the Men’s Club of Rahway.
He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine L. Shaffer Zofcin, who died on July 17, 2014 and his son, David Zofcin, who died on November 15, 2000.
Mr. Zofcin is survived by his son, Bernard J. Zofcin and his wife, Kathleen; his two daughters, Joanne Brauns and her husband, Frederick and Catherine Marr and her husband, Howard; his seven grandchildren and his three great grandchildren.
